A vintage photo of Vietnamese women eating together. They're sitting in xap, which is a large table for big group of people sitting. Each is holding a bowl of rice with chopsticks. In the past, most of Viet family will sit around the food tray to eat. Tables and chairs weren't used.
A Viet family: parent with 3 kids having a meal. The father is helping the children to eat. Everyone is sitting with their heels tucked beneath them. This sitting position is very comfortable and easy to move to pick up the food below.
At present, Vietnamese people use the table and chairs more often for mealtime. The food tray is still placed in the middle. And the whole family is sitting around.
